Happy New Year! I want to extend my best wishes to you and your family for a healthy, happy and prosperous new year. I hope that your 2018 will be filled with lots of happiness and excitement.
The new year brings with it a lot of new opportunities for fun and excitement. Our ski season is in full swing, and I know many of you will be looking forward to hitting the slopes with friends and family. This is also a great chance to grab a pair of skates and hit the ice for a game of shinny or to grab snowshoes and hit the trails. Don’t forget to bundle up and stay warm when enjoying all that our great outdoors has to offer.
Our community will have so many events throughout the winter, and I encourage everyone to participate in whichever ones they can. These events are a great way to meet new friends and to catch up with old ones.
The new year also brings with it a new federal budget. The budget is the centrepiece legislation for every government, as it dictates what the plans and priorities of the government are for the coming year. It is important for all Canadians to participate so that their voices are heard by the government.
Every year in January, the Department of Finance Canada launches pre-budget consultations, ahead of the federal budget. The government has launched the pre-budget consultations for 2018 and you can participate in them online here at https://www.budget.gc.ca/2018/prebudget-prebudgetaire/index-en.html. I encourage you to fill out the surveys and provide suggestions via email at the listed address.
As your Member of Parliament, I will also be hosting pre-budget consultations to gather input from our constituents about what you want to see in Budget 2018. Here is the information for the pre-budget consultation in Canmore:
Date: January 27, 2018
Time: 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Location: Canmore Miners’ Union Hall, 738 7 St., Canmore, AB, T1W 2C7

To keep up with what I’m doing, I encourage you to follow me on Facebook at www.facebook.com/blakerichards.ca, as I regularly post updates from our riding and Ottawa on social media. I will also be launching a new website soon, so that I can even better serve our constituents. Please visit www.blakerichards.ca for more information.
